Bates Sailing Team
We are a coed student-run club college sailing team at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
Boat Barn Demolition Project – Summer 2024
It is with a heavy heart that we share that Bates Facilities Services and Maintenance have set a demolition date this summer for our Boat Barn on Frye Street.
We are going to miss our little building more than anything, and are extremely grateful for all of the memories it has held these past 44 years.
While upsetting, we are looking forward to collaborating with the college on a new space, and to the bigger and brighter future Bates Club Sailing has in store!
We are a fun sailing team.
When the wind is too light to sail on Taylor Pond, you’ll find us at Wallingford’s enjoying apple cider donuts. After practice, you’ll find us enjoying dinner together in Bates’s dining hall, Commons.
Our team can manage to have 40+ members at a school of only 1,800 students because our team has a reputation for being fun.
We are a competitive sailing team.
Bates Sailing competes in 15+ college sailing regattas each year all across the Northeast.
We are a member of NEISA, which hosts an average of 8 regattas per weekend during the fall season, more than any other conference of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association.
We are a club sailing team.
As a club sport at Bates College, any student is welcome to join Bates Sailing.
~50% of Bates sailors join the club without knowing how to sail. Whether you are a competitive racing sailor or you are just looking to spend a fun day after class on the water, our team is for you.
